Clean Ocean Action sets Flounder Tournament

Clean Ocean Action, the Clam Hut, and the Skipper’s Shop, of Atlantic Highlands, will host the sixth annual John Murphy/Bob Hunter Memorial Flounder Tournament on April 1.

According to organizers, this is a unique, no fee, no registration fishing tournament to raise public awareness about water quality and recent issues affecting the future of the Atlantic Ocean.

A $500 prize will be awarded to the angler weighing in the heaviest flounder. Prizes will also be given to the boy or girl, age 12 or under, with the largest catch. All fish must measure at least 12 inches in length for weigh-in.

Weigh-in will be held at the Clam Hut from 1-5:30 p.m.; there will be door prizes, raffles, refreshments and more.

Participants will start the day with the traditional Blessing of the Waters at 9 a.m. with clergy and elected officials.
