HIGHTSTOWN – The Mahoney Brothers will perform for free
on July 20 at 7:30 p.m. by the Peddie Lake in downtown Hightstown.
The trio will present "Jukebox Heroes," a salute to some
of the pioneers of Rock ‘n Roll, in an event sponsored by the Greater
Hightstown/East Windsor Improvement Project, Minute-Maid, and Coleman Main
Line Chrysler-Plymouth.
The performance follows last year’s by The Coasters, and
1998 concerts by The Marvelettes and The Platters.
The Mahoney Brothers, who all hail from Hamilton Square,
began performing professionally in the late 1970s.
After a stint on Broadway in the production Beatlemania,
the group produced their own critically-acclaimed Beatles tribute called
"Long Live the Beatles."
They were hired as the original "Beatles" in the Las
Vegas "Legends" show, and went on to create "Jukebox Heroes."
Their compilation salutes artists like the Everly
Brothers, Buddy Holly, Jerry Lee Lewis, Ricky Nelson, Elvis Presley, The
Beach Boys, and the Bee Gees.
The Mahoney Brothers have performed "Jukebox Heroes" at
venues around the country, including Great Adventure, DisneyWorld, and
Hillary Clinton’s 30th High School Reunion.
Keith Bergmann, president of Businesses for a Better
Hightstown, said that the business community is eagerly anticipating the
show.
"We’re looking forward to it," Mr. Bergmann said. "We
want that kind of attraction down here and we’re going to support it."
The summer concerts, Mr. Bergmann said, usually draw
between 3,000 and 4,000 people. He added that businesses will stay open
late the evening of the show.
"People have gone out of their way to make sure they are
going to be there," Mr. Bergmann said.
