Former S.R. Rescue Squad president pleads guilty to theft by deception

SOUTH RIVER — The former treasurer and president of the South River Rescue Squad, Denise Daly, recently pleaded guilty to charges that she stole money from the squad in 1999.

According to Assistant Middlesex County Prosecutor Ronald Ambramowitz, Daly had been charged with theft by deception, a fourth-degree crime.

Since Daly did plead guilty, there will not be a trial and she will likely face probation and be ordered to make restitution when she is sentenced on Sept. 25, he said.

According to Ambramowitz, Daly wrote at least two checks for goods for personal use from the squad’s account.

Daly pleaded guilty to writing a $485.91 check to Sam’s Club in East Brunswick. In addition, she also admitted to writing a $989.94 check to CompUSA for the purchase of computer equipment, he explained.

Daly has agreed to pay back the entire $1,475.85 to the rescue squad for the purchases, Ambramowitz added.
