George Dewey Martin

   George Dewey Martin, 73, died Aug. 18 at The Medical Center at Princeton.
   Born in Roswell, N.M., he was a longtime Lawrenceville resident.
   He retired as a senior engineer from Princeton University Plasma Physics Laboratory and was a leader in cryogenics, vacuum technology and super conductivity. He was known by children as "Dr. Zero" for his physics demonstrations at local schools.
   He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
   Mr. Martin was a member, elder and deacon of Lawrence Road Presbyterian Church and sang with its choir. He also was a member of Sigma Kappa and Kappa Sigma fraternities, American Physics Association and Sons of the American Revolution. He was an assistant scoutmaster and scoutmaster of Boy Scouts Troop 28 in Lawrenceville.
   He attended Blackburn College in Carlinville, Ill., and received a bachelor’s degree in chemistry and a master’s degree in physics from New York University.
   Son of the late George and Sophie Anderson Martin, he is survived by his wife, May Devenny Martin; a son and daugher-in-law, George and Candice Martin of Anderson, N.C.; a daughter and son-in-law, Pamelo and Robert Mills of Cranbury; six grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, John Joseph and Peggy Martin of Richmond, N.C.; two sisters-in-law; four nephews; and a niece.
   Funeral was Aug. 22 at Lawrence Road Presbyterian Church.
   Burial was in Lawrenceville Cemetery.
