Upper Freehold teen dies in Vermont

Funeral on Wednesday for Peter R. Chiste

   UPPER FREEHOLD – A 17-year-old Allentown High School student died Thursday, Aug. 24, in Vermont after he slipped while hiking and hit his head.
   Peter R. Chiste, who would have been a senior at the school, was on a college-scouting trip in Stowe, Vt., when the accident occurred.
   Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. John the Baptist Church, 1282 Yardville-Allentown Road, with the Rev. Thomas Gervasio officiating.
   Burial will be in St. John Cemetery.
   Calling hours will be 2 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Peppler Funeral Home, 114 S. Main St., Allentown.
   Stowe Police Chief Kenneth Kaplan, in a press release, said Peter was trying to get a picture of some waterfalls and was later found at the base of Bingham Falls in a pool of water.
   The police had been notified at approximately 7:30 p.m. he was missing.
   Peter was described by his father, Raymond, as "terrific kid, a role model to many."
   Mr. Chiste said his son was interested in journalism and photography and was set to be the editor in chief of the Allentown High School newspaper.
