Rebecca S. Mackey
   Graveside services for Rebecca Sachs Mackey were held Wednesday at Highland Cemetery, Hopewell.
   The Rev. George Lynch of Calvary Baptist Church, Hopewell, presided.
   A memorial service will be held 3 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 17 at Princeton Racquet Club, Raymond Road, Route 1.
   Ms. Mackey died Aug. 24 at her home in Hopewell. The cause was ovarian cancer, which she had battled for four years. She was 63.
   Born in Oil City, Pa., she lived in Hopewell for 30 years.
   She and her husband, David, retired from Princeton Regional Schools in 1993 where she had been a physical education teacher and coach.
   She was the first female in New Jersey to coach a boy’s high school varsity team when she coached soccer in the late 1970s. She later became a track and field coach at Princeton High School after teaching at all of the schools in the district.
   She was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin.
   She was an avid tennis player and, upon retirement, co-captained a traveling team at the Princeton Racquet Club where she was named Player of the Year in 1998.
   Her father, Lt. Col. William Sachs, was killed at the end of World War II and her brother, Daniel, succumbed to cancer in 1996. Princeton University’s Sachs Memorial Scholarship is named in his honor.
   In addition to her husband, she is survived by her mother, Leila Sachs of Chambersburg, Pa.; sister and brother-in-law Jan Eppleman of Greencastle, Pa. and Robert of Lansdale, Pa.; brother and sister-in-law William and Ileana of Middlesex; sister-in-law Joan Sachs Shaw of East Hampton, N.Y.; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.

J. Fred Curran
   J. Fred Curran, 87, died Tuesday at Capital Health System at Fuld hospital, Trenton.
   Born in Trenton, he was a lifelong area resident and lived in Pennington.
   Mr. Curran retired in 1973 after 34 years with the state Department of Community Affairs.
   He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Bishop Griffin General Assembly Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, Holy Name Society of Incarnation Roman Catholic Church and Ancient Order of Hibernians, Monsignor Crean Division 1. He was past grand knight of Ewing council 3756 Knights of Columbus and past president of Mercer Particular Council of the St. Vincent de Paul Society and Incarnation Roman Catholic Church Conference of the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
   Son of the late John C. and Margaret A. Tyrrell Curran and father of the late Jerome C., he is survived by his wife, Marguerite Buker Curran; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Louise and Robert A. Pica of Chesterton, Ind.; two granddaughters, Nicole Pica and Jennifer Pica; and a nephew, John M. Curran.
   Funeral will be at 9 a.m. Friday from the M. William Murphy Funeral Home, 1863 Hamilton Ave., Hamilton.
   Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. at Incarnation Roman Catholic Church, 1545 Pennington Road, Ewing.
   Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hamilton.
   Calling hours will be from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
   The family would appreciate Mass cards.
Jerome C. Curran
   Jerome C. Curran, 50, died Monday at Vitas Hospice, Philadelphia.
   Born in Trenton, he lived in Philadelphia 14 years.
   Mr. Curran worked 23 years with General Motors Corp. in Ewing, and Wilmington, Del.
   He graduated from Notre Dame High School, Lawrence, in 1968 and attended Manhattan College.
   He collected antiques, enjoyed traveling and studied French.
   Son of the late J. Fred Curran, he is survived by his mother, Marguerite Buker Curran of Pennington,; a sister and brother-in-law, Mary Louise and Robert A. Pica of Chesterton, Ind.; two nieces, Nicole Pica and Jennifer Pica; an uncle, Leon E. Buker of Hamilton,; and three cousins, Jack Curran and Bob and Tom Buker.
   Funeral will be 9 a.m. Friday from M. William Murphy Funeral Home, 1863 Hamilton Ave., Hamilton.
   Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. at Incarnation Roman Catholic Church, 1545 Pennington Road, Ewing.
   Burial will be St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hamilton.
   Calling hours will be 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mary Elizabeth Kraus
   Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Kraus, 78, died Saturday at Langhorne Gardens Nursing Home.
   Born in Tulsa, Okla., she resided in Oak Ridge, Tenn., for 57 years before moving to Pennsylvania one year ago.
   Wife of the late Kurt A. Kraus, she is survived by two daughters, Carolyn Phillips of Louisville, Ky., and Katherine Kraus of Pennington; a son, Thomas Kraus of Newton, Mass.; and seven grandchildren, Karl and Nathan Phillips, Alex, Candice and Alison Kraus, Julian and Sasha Rosse.
   Memorial service will be held at a later date in Oak Ridge, Tenn.
   Arrangements were by Blackwell Memorial Home, Pennington.
Ruth Larson Chartier
   Ruth Larson Chartier, 88, died Monday at The Medical Center at Princeton.
   Born in Brooklyn, she moved to Hopewell Township in 1919.
   Mrs. Chartier was a member of Pennington United Methodist Church, where she was a former Sunday School teacher and member of Altar Committee. She was also a member of the Hopewell Valley Garden Club, The Women’s Club of Hopewell, Pennington Women’s Club, Cupola Society, and the Francis Harvey Green Society of The Pennington School. She enjoyed playing bridge.
   She attended Rider College.
   Daughter of the late Nils and Siri Larson, wife of the late Merlin H. Becher and Walter J. Chartier Sr., and mother of the late Alan Larson Becher, she is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Edith L. and B. Carl Hillman of Hopewell; a stepson, Walter J. Chartier Jr. of Discovery Bay, Calif.; and a sister-in-law, Marie Crittendon of Tennessee.
   Funeral was private and burial was in Highland Cemetery, Hopewell.

Carolyn Vannoy
   Carolyn Vannoy, 96, died Friday at her son and daughter-in-law’s home.
   Born in Hopewell, she was a longtime area resident and lived in Ocean Grove before returning to Hopewell Township.
   Daughter of the late George and Florence Servis Green, she is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Hartwell Jr. and Eleanor Vannoy of Hopewell Township, with whom she lived; a sister, Helen Mills of Dover, Del.; four grandsons, Jeffrey, Derrick, Christopher and Gregory Vannoy; four great-grandchildren; and a nephew, James Maxwell Mills Jr.
   Graveside service was held Wednesday at Highland Cemetery, Hopewell, with the Rev. George Lynch, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, Hopewell, officiating.
   Arrangements were by Cromwell Memorial Home, Hopewell.
