HHS girls notch second swim win

Team drowns Nottingham, 121-49

   Ten first places, including sweeps in the 200 freestyle, 100 butterfly, and 500 freestyle, powered the Hightstown High School girls’ swim team to a 121-49 win over visiting Nottinghham Tuesday afternoon. The Rams improved to 2-9 with the victory, while the Northstars fell to 0-9.
   Sara Brunetti (2:35.69), Laura Thornley and Sarah White gave the Rams their first one-two-three of the day when they swept the 200 freestyle. Brunetti (1:23.07) win started a sweep in the 100 butterfly. She was followed by teammates Robin Drew and Alana Grundel.
   Thornley (6:55.97) came back to win freestyle, touching in front of Amy Medley and Kristen Lalka.
   Julie Tuleya was a double winner when she won the 200 IM (2:56.04) and 100 freestyle (1:06.59). Katie Johnston (1:20.02 100 backstroke) and Rebecca Follansbee (1:29.16 100 breaststroke) were other individual winners.
   Hightstown also won the relays. Johnston, Follansbee, Brunetti, and Tuleya picked up the 200 medley relay. Johnston, Baillie, Nicole Ringelheim and Tuleya won the 200 freestyle relay in 2:09.49. Levy, Thornley, White, and Brunetti claimed the 400 freestyle relay in 4:58.19.
   In other results, Ringelheim, Agatha Rubens, Drew and Baillie were second in the 200 medley relay. Grundel was third in the 200 IM, Johnston and White went two-three in the 50 freestyle, and Ringelheim was third in the 100 free Also, Lalka, Follansbee, Medley and Levy were third in the 200 freestyle relay. Ringelheim was second in the 100 backstroke.
   The Hightstown girls swim team scored four first places last Thursday in a 105-65 loss at Hamilton. The win improved Hamilton to 5-6.
   Baillie won the 50 freestyle for the Rams with a time of 31.44, Tuleya’s 1:07.62 captured the 100 freestyle, Ringelheim touched first in the 100 backstroke in 1:18.25, and Follansbee took the 100 breaststroke in 1:28.12.
   But Hamilton won every other event, and gained most of the seconds and thirds, too.
   In other results, Thornley was third in the 200 and 500 freestyles, Grundel was second in the 200 IM, Brunetti was second in the 100 butterfly and Ashvini Thammaiah was third in the 100 breaststroke. Also, Ram foursomes were second in the 200 medley, 200 freestyle and 400 freestyle relays.
