The Belmar Improvement Fund, in collaboration with the Jersey Shore Running Club, will present the 25th Anniversary Belmar Five-Mile Run July 14.

For the first time in the 25-year history of the race the event is scheduled for July 14 rather than in late August.

This new date will offer summer residents and college students the opportunity to join the fun. There will still be a fitness walk and kids’ races, scheduled for Friday night, July 13. All events will be held in Belmar. Last year more than 2,500 participants and hundreds of volunteers made this race one of the premier events at the Jersey Shore.

This year the goal, with the help of the Jersey Shore Running Club, is to attract 3,500 participants. There will be new team categories with a selection for everyone to participate in, and great postrace pasta parties. For information visit www.belmar5.com, or call (732) 571-2162.

Clean Ocean Action and the Jersey Shore Running Club held their Race for the Water Beach Run 2001 at Seven Presidents Park on June 9.

It was a perfect day for an evening race, with temperatures in the low 80s and a refreshing breeze.

More than 125 running enthusiasts and supporters showed up to participate in this year’s challenging event.

The race co-directors were Kelley Maroon of Rumson and Phil Hinck of Long Branch.

Among the top overall winners were Mike Tully of Belmar (first-place, male), Keira Hetem of Middletown (first-place, 15-19), Lisa Ryden of Sea Bright (first-place, 30-39), Marilyn Ryder of Long Branch (first-place, 60-69), and James Robbins of Eatontown (first-place, 70-and-over).
