Over the Labor Day weekend, the East Brunswick Explosion U12 girls travel soccer team participated in the East Brunswick Tournament. The girls competed in the Premier flight and played against some of the top teams in the state. The girls are improving their soccer skills with each game they play. The following girls play on the team: Dana Alessi, Alexis Adinolfi, Danielle Anderson, Morgan Brown, Courtney Catania, Amanda DeCicco, Jamie DeVivo, Nicolle Donlon, Casey Keach, Lauren Onifer, Dana Pagliuco, Patrice Resch, Carolann Simpson, Courtney Simpson and Ashley Sjostrom.

Jamesburg Recreation is holding a 10-week fall aerobic course at the John. F. Kennedy School gym on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:30-8:30 p.m. starting Sept. 20. Cost is $59. Jamesburg Recreation is also holding a registration for fall basketball, hockey and cheerleading on Sept. 11, from 6-9 p.m. at Borough Hall at 131 Perrineville Road.

The New Jersey Bandits, a central New Jersey-based travel inline hockey organization, will be holding tryouts for its 2001-02 season for their 8U, 10U, 12U, 14U and 16U teams. All inline hockey players (boys and girls) are invited to try out. The teams compete in the tri-state area, as well as in local tournaments. Last year, this club’s 14U team won fourth place in the USARS Nationals in Rochester, N.Y. Five students from the East Brunswick Taekwondo Center traveled to compete in the AAU 2001 National Taekwondo Championships in Detroit. Charles Ferrone, 9, earned his fifth straight national title by winning the gold medal in the boys 9-10 Youth Black Belt Forms division. He also won a silver medal in Olympic sparring and a bronze medal in Point Sparring. Carolyn Chu, 9, won her fourth straight national title by winning the gold medal in the girls 9-10 Youth Black Belt Point Sparring division. She also earned a silver medal in forms competition. Kenneth Chu, Carolyn Chu and Charles Ferrone earned a silver medal in the Team Forms Competition. Stephen Gendlek, 10, earned a gold medal in Olympic Sparring. Frank Gendlek claimed a gold medal for Point Sparring and won a silver medal in forms, competing in the Men’s Executive Intermediate division. Ken Horowitz earned honorable mention for his participation.
