The North Brunswick Indians will be participating in the Middlesex County Adopt a Road program this Saturday. The Indians will be cleaning Cozzens Land and will be meeting at Sabella Park. Football players and cheerleaders who would like to volunteer should call Derek Dickinson at (732) 287-5201.

The NFL Punt, Pass and Kick challenge will be held at Sabella Park on Cozzens Lane in North Brunswick on Sept. 22. The challenge is open to all boys and girls ages 8-15. Registration will begin at 9 a.m. All participants must bring their birth certificates and a parent. Sneakers, not cleats, must be worn. Winner will move on to regional competition. The Golden Bear Chargers Midget squad remained unbeaten since Sept. 23, 1997, when they knocked off North Brunswick, 23-0. Scoring started in the second quarter when Zack Tardiff hit Mike Dubovick with a 70-yard strike. Mike Franchion added the extra point to make it 7-0. Dubovick then added a 28-yard field goal for a 10-0 halftime lead. In the third quarter, it was Tardiff to Dubovick again with a 12-yard strike. In the fourth quarter, Vinny Quaglieri raced it in from the nine-yard line to cap the scoring. Strong GBC defense performances by Robert Wait, John and Tim Dubovick Jeremy Chisiom, and outstanding special teams play by Nick Dzeliek kept North Brunswick scoreless.

The Peewee squad lost a tough shootout, 45-33, led by Jim Geroulson, while the junior peewee team won 19-6, and the Mighty Mite squad won 21-7. On Sept. 8, the Junior Midgets lost a heart-breaker, 13-6, to Burlington. Trailing 6-0 Jeron Mayfield broke a 60-yard run to tie it at 6-6 at the half. GBC was down 13-6 on the final drive when they got stopped at the Burlington 18. Anthony Scoles, Kiki Douglas and Rob Thuring led the attack

Registration is being accepted for the Old Bridge ice hockey winter youth instructional program, sponsored by the township Department of Parks, Recreation and Social Services. The 11-week program will be held on Sunday evenings and will teach youngsters aged 5 through 12 the fundamentals of hockey, including stickhandling, passing, and shooting. Participants are required to wear full equipment. The 90-minute sessions are broken into two age groups: 5-8 and 9-13. The 5-8 group runs from 5:15-6:45 p.m.; the older group runs from 6:45-8:15 p.m. The cost is $200 for Old Bridge residents and $250 for nonresidents.
