The Sayreville Little League will be holding registration for new registrants only at the clubhouse located on the corner of Washington Road and Margaret Street on Nov. 3 and 17 from 9 a.m. to noon, and on Nov. 8 and 27 from 7-9 p.m. Children ages 5-16 on or before July 31, 2002, are eligible. The league also offers Challenger Division for children with special needs. Three separate checks are required: registration, and refundable work and uniform bonds, and a stamped, self-addressed envelope. Please bring child’s original birth certificate with raised seal. Sayrewoods South Little League will be holding its 2002 registration on Oct. 27 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the clubhouse on Fox Street. Registration fee is $65 for one child, $85 for two or more, and $50 for T-ball (5-year-olds). A $100 work bond is required. The registration is open to all boys and girls born between Aug. 1, 1985, and July 31, 1997. A copy of his/her birth certificate is required for all new registrants. Registration is being accepted for the Old Bridge winter ice hockey youth instructional program, sponsored by the township Department of Parks, Recreation & Social Services. The 11-week program will be held on Sunday evenings from Dec. 16 through March 10 at the Old Bridge Sports Arena. Youngsters ages 5 through 12 will be instructed on the fundamentals of hockey, including stick handling, passing and shooting. Participants are required to wear full equipment. The 90-minute sessions are broken into two age groups: 5-8 and 9-13. The 5-8 group runs from 5:15 to 6:45 p.m.; the older group runs from 6:45 to 8:15 p.m. The cost is $200 for Old Bridge residents and $250 for nonresidents. The Sayreville Lady Bees clinched first place in the U-11 Monmouth-Ocean Soccer Association Girls American Division with a 2-1 victory over the Ocean Pearls this week. Taylor Miller provided the offense for the Bees with a two-goal effort. Jessie McCracken and Julianna Burns were credited with assists. Ashley Pires and Brittni Rooth played strong games at fullback and forward respectively. The Lady Bees season record is now 6-0-0.

The Sayreville Raiders girls U9 travel soccer team defeated the Middletown Power 4-0, improving their record to 5-0-1. Maggie Presnal and Ashleylynn Remo each contributed two goals. The Raiders’ roster includes Sarah Balon, Samantha Bonaparte, JulieAnne Braun, Nicolette Craig, Amanda Murray, Katy Nowell, Brittany Nowicki, Maggie Presnal, Emme Ramiro, Ashleylynn Remo, Magaret Santapaga, Samantha Satchell, Jennifer Shereyka and Jennifer Stolte.

Sayreville resident Danny Giovenco, 13, won first place in the 13-17 age group in the Run Through Deal 5-Mile Run on Oct. 14. Giovenco finished the race in 40 minutes flat, just ahead of his father, George Giovenco Jr. (40:20). Danny’s time of 40 minutes is a personal best for the eighth-grade student at Sayreville Middle School.

The Sayreville Rockets, a U9 boys tournament soccer team, took first place at the Freehold Frightfest Soccer Tournament, winning their two games, 4-2 and 6-0. The team’s record this season is four wins and one loss. Team members are Matt Beckhusen, Billy Cavanaugh, Dylan Griebell, Craig Huff, Tim Huff, Jarred Huggins, Brian Link, Steven Monticello, Mike Parillo, Nick Petruzzi, Jeremy Shedlock and Lance Weiss.
