Coach Jeff Horohonich, head varsity basketball coach for Immaculate Heart Academy High School, Washington Township, will hold an AAU basketball workout for girls ages 11 and under. In order to play on an 11-and-under AAU team players must be born in 1990 or later. The workout will be held at Immaculate Heart Academy on Nov. 10 from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Admission is free, and advanced level skills are required. Anyone who cannot attend this workout but is interested in playing AAU travel basketball in the spring should call Coach Horohonich at (201) 791-0342. If needed, call IHA for directions. Bergen Jazz 2002 sponsors AAU Basketball teams for girls 11U, 3U, 14U and 15U.

The Kendall Park Skating and Hockey Facility is now accepting registrations for the following upcoming 10-week hockey programs: a youth roller hockey league for ages 10 and under (games are played on Wednesdays at 5:30 p.m. or 6:30 p.m.), 13-17 (Wednesdays at 7:30 p.m.), 8-12 and 11-14 (Saturday mornings) beginning Nov. 21; an adult/youth floor hockey season, beginning Nov. 18, with all games held on Sunday evenings; a 10-week adult roller hockey league beginning Nov. 15, with games held on Thursday evenings; and a 10-week over-30 adult league, beginning Nov. 26, with all games on Monday evenings. The Jersey Nightmare, a central New Jersey-based girls fastpitch softball organization, is looking for several dedicated players for the 2002 season for their 12U (born 1989 or later) team. The Level 4 team of Worldwide Gymnastics, Old Bridge, under the coaching efforts of Alesia Plock, placed second in the Harvest Gathering Meet in Garfield on Nov. 4. Individual place results are as follows: in the 6-8-year-olds, Kimberly Acer took fourth on vault, second on bars, first on beam, second on floor, and first in the all-around; Katherine Hungrige took first on bars and sixth in the all-around; Sydney Wasserberger took third on floor. Of the 9-11-year-olds, Jennifer Gellman took fourth on beam and fifth in the all-around; Kristina Hungrige took second on vault, first on bars, second on beam, and second in the all-around; Katherine McCracken took third on bars; Marisa Simone took fourth on vault, second on floor, and sixth in the all-around. Of the 12-and-up age group, Stephanie Giacalone took first on vault, bars, beam, floor and all-around. Other members of the team are Taryn McGrane and Briana Mosher.

All of the girls have achieved a qualifying score and are looking forward to the sectional meet to be held at Henderson’s gym Saturday.
