The Sayreville Thunder U11 boys’ soccer team beat the Lacey Explosion 2-1 on Nov. 4. The goals were scored by Bobby Pizzi with an assist to C.J. Weiss. The entire team played well in the win.

The Sayreville Recreation Department wrestling program still has openings for boys and girls through the eighth grade from Sayreville and South Amboy who are looking to learn Olympic-style wrestling from qualified coaches and staff. The season starts the Monday after Thanksgiving. Nov. 19 and 20 there will be conditioning sessions to prepare the wrestlers for the upcoming season. Now in its eighth season, many of the wrestlers from the program have continued on and performed well at both the middle school and high school levels. No previous wrestling experience is necessary to participate. Those entering the program are matched up with wrestlers with similar experience and weight. Registration will be held next Monday and Tuesday evening at Arleth Elementary School on Washington Road, 6:30 – 8:30 p.m., or call the recreation office at (732) 390-7092 or (732) 390-7096.

The Level 4 team of Worldwide Gymnastics, Old Bridge, together with their coaches Alesia Plock and Bruce Petty, competed in the NJ-USAG sectional meet on Nov. 10 at Henderson’s gym in Edison. Individual place results are as follows: 6-8-year-olds — Kimberly Acer took 12th on vault, first on bars, ninth on beam, second on floor, and second in the all-around with a qualifying score of 35.4; Jennifer Gellman achieved a qualifying score of 32.4; Katherine Hungrige took 10th on floor and 11th in the all-around with a qualifying score of 34.05; Briana Mosher took 10th on vault, fifth on beam, sixth on floor, and 10th in the all-around with a qualifying score of 33.55; Sydney Wasserberger took eighth on bars, sixth on beam, first on floor, and fifth in the all-around with a qualifying score of 34.95.

• 9-11-year-olds — Kristina Hungrige took first on vault, first on bars, second on beam, sixth on floor and first in the all-around with a qualifying score of 36.675; Kate McCracken took fourth on bars and achieved a qualifying score of 32.5; Marisa Simone took 12th on floor and achieved a qualifying score of 32.95.

• 12 and up age group — Stephanie Giacalone took first on vault, bars, beam, floor and all-around with a qualifying score of 35.8. Team member Taryn McGrane also competed.

Those achieving a qualifying score will compete in the NJ-USAG state meet to be held at Henderson’s gym in December.
