The Holmdel Stallions-Ruffians girls’ U14 traveling soccer team scored back-to-back shutouts against the Manalapan Lighting and the Wall Mustangs by identical 3-0 scores. After a scoreless first half against Manalapan, Christine Lynch lofted a shot under the crossbar off a pass from Devin Mahon to break the deadlock. Catrina Gallo and Alyssa Hayek followed with goals from passes by Lauren Grado and Kaitlyn Matuszewski. Goalie Amanda Yip recorded the shutout. In their game against the Wall Mustangs, the Holmdel Ruffians scored in the first minute of play on a blast from inside the 18-yard line by Susan Flood. Flood followed with another first-half goal on a deflection off the opposing goalie. With under a minute remaining in the first half, stopper Kristyn Mikulka scored her first goal of the season off a pass from Becky Steinberg. Goalie Alyssa Hayek recorded her first victory of the season. In both games, the defense, led by sweeper Michelle Evaristo and fullbacks Kerry Egan and Rose Yan, turned back numerous scoring opportunities to preserve the shutouts. The defense has allowed one goal in their last four games. The team is coached by J. P. Mahon, and is assisted by John Lynch and Larry Egan. George Vichniakov is the trainer.

The Central Jersey Hawks U9 girls will be having tryouts in December for the upcoming season. The season begins in March. Girls cannot have turned 10 before Jan. 1, 2002. Those interested, contact M.B. Chambers at (732) 741-1389 or e-mail MBHoops10@aol.com.

The 17th Annual Husky Indoor Soccer League of Matawan will hold registrations Dec. 1 from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Aberdeen Municipal Building, at One Aberdeen Square. The league is open to all ages in Monmouth, Ocean and Middlesex counties. One-hour games are played Sundays throughout January and February.
