Scouts name 2002 directors

HOWELL — Monmouth Council of Girl Scouts has selected its Board of Directors for 2002-2004, including officers, members-at-large and three girls who currently are Senior Girl Scouts.

The president of Monmouth Council of Girl Scouts is Dr. Judy Kramer, Colts Neck. Red Bank resident Eric Wagner will serve as first vice president, while Rosalind Seawright of Freehold is third vice president. Other officers include secretary Phoebe Edwards, Fair Haven, and treasurer Barbara Birdsall, Wall Township.

Fifteen residents of Monmouth County were named members-at-large for Monmouth Council of Girl Scouts. They are Cesar Aguilar, Freehold; Jim Bourke, Manasquan; Jerry Cevetello, Farmingdale; Kelsie Foster, Long Branch; Tom Halpin, Port Monmouth; Dr. Grace Hickey, Millstone Township; Barbara Johnson, Ocean Township; Barry Johnson, Neptune; Chaula Patel, Ocean Township; Gail Poverman-Kave, Manasquan; Barbara Roma, Wall Township; Ann Scott, Brielle; Roberta Sheridan, Allenhurst; and Elaine Warga-Murray, Howell.

Kramer appointed three Senior Girl Scouts to serve on the Monmouth Council of Girl Scouts board for one year. These Girl Scouts are Ashley Decker, Oakhurst; Recie Miller, Port Monmouth; and Elena Marszalowicz, Middletown.

The Board of Directors for Monmouth Council of Girl Scouts is responsible for charter obligations, corporate relationships, policy, strategic planning and fund development. The board selects and evaluates the performance of the executive director, oversees the overall finances and management function of Monmouth Council, opens the lines of communication between adult volunteers and the board and promotes Monmouth Council of Girl Scouts in the community.

The Monmouth Council of Girl Scouts nominating committee selects delegates for the Girl Scout National Meeting (Oct. 17-20 in Long Beach, Calif.). Committee chair is board member Barry Johnson. Committee members are board member Kelsie Foster; Ronni Siegel-Reed, Colts Neck; and Reva Shapiro, Lincroft.

With a membership of more than 11,500 girls, Monmouth Council of Girl Scouts will send seven delegates to the Girl Scout National Meeting: Dr. Judy Kramer, president; Sue McClure, executive director; Nancy Gargan and Renee Shrum of Hazlet; Edie Poole of Holmdel; and two Senior Girl Scouts – Laurian Horowitz, Keansburg, and Ashley Decker, Oakhurst, who also serves on the board.

According to McClure, "We are looking forward to kicking off the 40th anniversary year of Monmouth Council of Girl Scouts under the innovative leadership of our Board of Directors. We have planned a number of exciting activities, including day camp at Camp Sacajawea, a 40th anniversary celebration on Oct. 5 and the development of a riding center. I am confident we will bring these activities to fruition with the support of our board."

Monmouth Council of Girl Scouts serves one of every five girls in Monmouth County and the northern Ocean County communities of Brick, Point Pleasant, Point Pleasant Beach, Mantoloking and Bay Head.
