So. Brunswick historian asks for information on Old Stone Inn

Much of our local history is what I call "forgotten history." From the time of the Lenni Lenape Native Americans to our "settlers" of today, the who, what and when of South Brunswick’s history is often a mystery waiting to be solved. Learning about those who came before us helps to understand the community we live in.

Today I am asking your readers to help learn the story of the Old Stone Inn that was located on the northbound side of Route 1 between Raymond Road and Stouts Lane.

All that remains is a signpost heavily covered in vines. I think it was probably built in the 1940s or ’50s. Was it a bar patronized by local residents? It was demolished sometime in the 1980s or 1990s.

If you have information, stories, or pictures of the Old Stone Inn, it would help solve one of South Brunswick’s little mysteries.

Pictures can be photocopied from the South Brunswick Public Library’s Local History Collection. Please contact Ceil Leedom at (732) 329-6417, or send your information to me at the South Brunswick Public Library, 110 Kingston Lane, Monmouth Junction, 08852.

Help solve a South Brunswick "history mystery."
