Voters show support

The voters of North Bruns-wick showed this week that they really care about their education program.

Residents approved the $29 million schools building referendum by a 2-1 margin.

Many people worked very hard and very quickly to put this important plan together to help ease the crowding in the high school.

Parents, teachers and administrators seemed to have boundless energy in getting voters educated on the problem, and getting people to the polls for Tuesday’s vote.

This was not the only bond question in the state.

Several districts appealed to voters to get that last shot of state funding before Gov. Jim McGreevey tightens the state’s money belt.

The expected shortfall in the state budget, estimated between $2 billion-$4 billion, will mean a lot less money flowing to the schools for needed building.

This week, McGreevey said that municipalities will have to do with less in state aid.

While taxes are rising, the district had little choice but to act now to make sure it could get the best deal on its construction.

This will be a benefit and will help the township’s homes increase in value over time.

Congratulations to those who worked so hard to have this plan pass.

It is a good plan with no frills, and a victory for all the residents of the township.
