Host families sought
for BlueClaws players

LAKEWOOD — The Lakewood BlueClaws are looking for local families to assist in housing players during the upcoming season.

Anyone with a spare room can help provide lodging for this year’s players by either renting or lending out a room or apartment. Last year, the BlueClaws received an enthusiastic response from the community as nine host families and a pool of nearly 30 homes helped house the first edition of the Lakewood BlueClaws.

"It was great to have so many people step forward and help out last season," said BlueClaws General Manager Geoff Brown. "We have a list of host families from last year that we’re going to turn to first, but we are always looking for more families that can help us out. It’s a great way to get involved with the ball club, and both the players and the organization are truly appreciative."

The BlueClaws are looking to add to their list of families where someone speaks Spanish in the home because of the number of Latin American players on the roster. Last season, up to nine Spanish-speaking players were on the roster at any one time.

The regular season runs from April 4 until Sept. 2. Players typically range from 18 to 24 years of age. Anyone interested in helping out or seeking more information may contact Jennifer Smits at (732) 901-7000, ext. 100.
