Residents should also have say in condemnation issue

The continuing soap opera that is North Brunswick continued to play out this week when the Democrats on the Township Council passed a resolution calling for fair negotiations with the Otken family.

I have to give credit where credit is due though, and at least the Democrats are trying to do the right thing by fairly negotiating with a person before just taking their land.

What is upsetting, however, is all of this effort might be too late if the condemnation that was passed by the previous council majority cannot legally be reversed.

Wouldn’t that be a shame if now the taxpayers got stuck with this mess all because our previous elected officials thought they could thumb their nose at the voters who just weeks before made it clear they didn’t want this condemnation to go through?

I hope the Democrats on the council continue to show they are willing to listen to the people. After all, isn’t that what democracy is supposed to be all about?
