Works of 57 artists at MCAC juried art show

The Monmouth County Arts Council’s (MCAC) 23rd annual juried art show is now open and will run through Feb. 17 at the Monmouth Museum on the campus of Brookdale Community College, Lincroft section of Middletown.

Admission is $4. Exhibition hours are Tuesday-Saturday from 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m., and Sunday from 1-5 p.m. Many pieces are for sale, with a portion of funds benefiting the MCAC and the museum.

Approximately 400 works were submitted, with 57 works selected by juror Gary Kuehn of Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers University, New Brunswick. Kuehn also awarded $1,200 in awards to four artists, and honorable mentions to five artists.

Four MCAC awards of $300 were given to the following: Shari Epstein, Leonardo section of Middletown, for "Nature’s Repose" (oil); Beverly Hertler, Red Bank for "Spectrum III" (fiber); Santo Pezzutti, Red Bank for "Rain Forest" (acrylic); and Kurt Thum, Shrewsbury for "Untitled" (oil).

Honorable mentions were awarded to: Eugene Brunner, West Long Branch for "Untitled" (mixed media); Brooke Giles, Middletown, for "Scattered Serenity" (oil); Doris Hyland, Old Bridge for "Night Vision" (oil); Henry Rand, Monroe Township for "Lattice" (photograph); and Walt Swales, Denville, for "Latin Ground" (steel).
