Borough man found dead in his home

FAIR HAVEN — Borough police recently discovered a Lincoln Avenue resident dead in his home.

James A. Stewart, 52, was found dead in the kitchen of his Lincoln Avenue home Feb. 4, by patrolman Jeff Jarvis.

Jarvis, according to borough police, responded to a request to check on Steward, who hadn’t been seen for several days.

The officer spoke to various neighbors, who mentioned not seeing Stewart for a number of days and noticed the mail building up. Jarvis peered into Stewart’s window and saw a body lying on the kitchen floor.

Jarvis pried open the door and identified Smith’s body, according to a police press release.

The subsequent investigation, conducted by borough police and the Monmouth County Prosecutor’ Office, Freehold, indicated there was nothing suspicious found in the house, according to police.

An autopsy done by Dr. Jay A. Peacock, the Monmouth County Medical Examiner, determined that Steward had been dead for a number of days, according to Robert A. Honecker Jr., first assistant prosecutor.

The medical evidence indicated that Smith died from heart disease, Honecker said.
