Park your surf or snowboard at home Feb. 20 and enjoy a night of surf and snow videos as a benefit for Clean Ocean Action. The videos by surf and snow gear manufacturers Volcom and O’Neill will be shown on the large screen in the auditorium of Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School. Current RFH senior Tyler Thompson is coordinating the evening which will feature Cindy Zipf, RFH grad, and inductee of the school’s Hall of Fame, and founder of COA. The event will run from 7 – 9:30 p.m., and the $5 admission includes refreshments and door prizes.

Art classes at Red Bank Middle School have created the artwork for an exhibit of life-sized paper puppets of U.S. presidents currently on display at the Red Bank Public Library at 84 W. Front St. The exhibit created in honor of Presidents’ Day will run through Feb. 28. Figures on display span the centuries, and the Georges – from Washington to "W." Library hours are Mon., Wed., Thurs. 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Tues., Fri., Sat., 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Drop in for a nap. Duxiana, luxury bedding boutique at 37 Broad Street, is celebrating its third anniversary in Red Bank this month. The store has two other locations in Ridgewood and Summit.

Spring will be in full bloom at the 2002 Philadelphia Flower Show where thousands of blooms will bedazzle flower lovers. The Monmouth Museum is sponsoring a bus trip to the annual floral extravaganza March 7. The bus will leave at noon from the museum, which is located on the campus of Brookdale Community College, and return at 9 p.m. Cost is $70 for museum members and $80 for nonmembers. Monmouth County Friends of Clearwater will hold a general membership meeting 2:00 p.m. March 3 at the Unitarian Universalist Meeting House at 1475 West Front St., Lincroft. A guest speaker will be featured and the public is invited.

Take yourself out to the ballgame and help the environment. Monmouth County Friends of Clearwater will hold a fund-raiser picnic Friday, April 26 at GPU Energy Park, Lakewood. The Lakewood BlueClaws will play the Charleston, S.C., Riverdogs. The picnic will begin at 6:35 p.m. Cost is $25 for adults, $20 for children ages 5 to 12 and free for children under 4 not using a seat.

The price includes tickets to the game and an all-you-can-eat buffet. Checks or money orders with the ticket buyer’s name, address, telephone number and the number of adult and children’s tickets needed, should be sent to Monmouth County Friends of Clearwater Inc., P.O. Don’t want to row, row, row that boat any more? Big Brothers Big Sisters of Monmouth County is seeking donations of boats for its Boats for Kids’ Sake campaign. Fiberglass boats of any size, which are seaworthy will be accepted and will be towed away free anywhere in the U.S. Donors may be eligible to take the fair market value of the boat as a charitable donation on income taxes. The Boats for Kids’ Sake campaign will raise funds for at-risk children in Monmouth County.

Do you know who’s in what office of the Fair Haven Fire Company for the year 2002? If not, here’s the list: John Feeney, chief; Marty Coy, deputy chief; Robert Frank, first assistant chief; and Michael Reddy, second assistant chief.

As for the Fair Haven first aid squad … William Acker is captain; Andy Schrank is first lieutenant, and Richard Brister is second lieutenant.

The Fire Police officers are: Lew Davison, captain; Tricia Brett, first lieutenant; and Doug McFarland, second lieutenant.

Don’t forget in March and no earlier, get your sticks to the street! It’s leaf and brush collection time again in Fair Haven. Residents should check the schedule posted in the town newsletter for when and where pickup will be.

The Fair Haven Board of Education is in the process of formulating its budget. Now’s the time to stand up and support what you like or denounce what you don’t. The elections will take place on April 16. Until then, it’s time to glean some knowledge on the subject.

Author and former co-director of the Teachers’ College Reading and Writing Project at Columbia University, New York City, Shirley McPhillips has started work with Fair Haven Schools’ kids and teachers. Around through April, McPhillips’ aim is to facilitate a deeper understanding of workshop writing with a lab-type classroom approach.

The Red Bank Elks Lodge 233 will be holding its annual charity ball on Feb. 23, starting at 7 p.m.

This is the 91st ball and will feature music by The Blue Notes. The event is semiformal, and donations are $50 per person, The annual event helps raise the necessary funds for the local Elks to continue its charitable work.
