SOUTH BRUNSWICK — Pierre’s Restaurant and Deli on Georges Road recently added a bar and liquor store.

"People came to dinner and they would want something to drink," said owner Pierre Hage-Boutros. "They would wait in the lobby trying to get seating with nothing to do. Now, while they wait for dinner, they can stop in and have a drink."

The bar and liquor store at Pierre’s opened about two weeks ago. It will provide things that are restricted in the restaurant and deli area, according to Hage-boutros.

"The whole facility is smoke free, but this bar area can be used for smoking, drinking and eating," said Hage-Boutros. "You could watch television and meet friends. There is nothing like this in our area of town."

Hage-Boutros said that the liquor store was opened to be more convenient to customers.

"It was done for the convenience of this town," Hage-Boutros said. "The liquor store offers the same service to the community as our deli, bakery, restaurant and banquet facility. The bar is good. It is a great opportunity to meet people. It is a completion of the operation that we have here."

Currently the bar is open the same hours as the restaurant, but Hage-Boutros said that there are plans to expand the hours.

"The bar is currently open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.," Hage-Boutros said. "It will be expanded to later hours when business picks up more."

Pierre’s started out as a deli in 1990 and has since expanded into a deli, bakery and restaurant. In 1990, Hage-Boutros bought what used to be known as the Butler store. At the time it was a small deli and grocery store. In 1997, Hage-Boutros opened the bakery. Last year he opened the restaurant and lounge.

Hage-Boutros said Pierre’s is there to help South Brunswick.

"We are here to be convenient to the community, to serve the community the best that we can," Hage-Boutros said. "We are here to serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. Now we are going to have a happy hour with our lunch. Everything will be convenient from our liquor store. I welcome everyone to come in and take a look at our liquor store. We are happy to serve everyone in our community."

Bartender Tom Abbr said that the new bar will have drink specials daily and on holidays.

"Right now we are having happy hour specials with lunch and a nightly special with dinner," Abbr said. "On holidays, such as St. Patrick’s Day, we will have special Irish drinks. We also want to coordinate with what the chef is serving. We will also have a house wine and different premium wines to give the diner more variety. We will offer the same menu at the bar that is offered at the restaurant. The difference is that the customer can smoke, eat and drink at their leisure. We’re open to the public for anyone to have a drink. This is a local gathering place."

Hage-Boutros said that the prices in his liquor store are similar to those in other liquor stores.

"Many people will find that this is a very convenient store," Hage-Boutros said. "The prices in the store are very competitive. It is a real one-stop shop. We also host banquets that have anywhere from 50 people to 500 people. We have a separate, affordable room with expert service from our executive culinary chef, Gerrad Zolezi."

The bar will have a special celebration soon, according to Hage-Boutros.

"There will be a grand opening for the whole facility and everyone is invited," Hage-Boutros said. "We plan to have some big surprises to celebrate the opening."
