The Allentown United U-10 girls soccer team played its first home game against the Lacey Lazers. United opened the scoring with a goal from midfielder Shelby Doll at the sixth minute mark of the game. While the defense led by Meghan Valnoski, Brittany Worral, Angelique Calise and Samantha Meyers held off the Lazers, Ashley Pereira gave the United a 2-0 lead when she scored from a great pass from Ashley Perritt. The United team put the game away in the second half with goals from Gabrielle Horner and Danielle Turner who scored twice. Amanda Kyle, Brooke Kania and Alexa Johnson kept putting the pressure on the Lazers. Shannon Buckley was great in goal, making six saves. Ashely Perritt replaced her at the end of the second half and made a couple of spectacular saves on her own to preserve the shutout. This was the first win of the season for this United team. The next home game will be April 13 against Jackson. Allentown United plays all of its home games at Upper Freehold’s Imlaystown school. The girls will play again on April 13, April 20, May 4, and May 11 Each game starts at 11:30 a.m.

The defending champion Allentown United U-14 co-ed soccer team got back on the winning track, after a season opening 4-4 tie, with an impressive 8-0 blanking of an undermanned Beachwood Invader squad. The scoring was spread evenly as United got two goals each from center halfback Greg Koday, and forwards Jonathan Mumpower and Brian Pereira, with single tallies from stopper Zach Strobino and fullback Dimitria Papageorge. Koday controlled the midfield throughout the early morning contest at the Beachwood complex while the defense came up big in support of substitute goalies Thomas Barkley, Matt O’Hare and Mumpower. Wingers Jennifer Taylor and Tian Shackelford kept the offense focused and on the attack for most of the contest. After a holiday break this weekend, the 1-0-1 United squad resumes play on Saturday, April 6 with a 1:30 p.m. home match at Jackson’s Patriots’ Park against Toms River Youth Blasters.
