Optimist Club offers scholarships

The Evening Optimist Club of Freehold is offering scholarships to seniors of the class of 2002 who reside in the eight communities comprising the Freehold Regional High School District.

Applicants must be in good academic standing, have been accepted to a two- or four-year post-secondary school, submit two letters of recommendation, submit a short essay about themselves and their goals and have demonstrated need.

The offerings are one Harry Ruffer Memorial Scholarship of $1,000 and one Henry Mayer Memorial Scholarship of $1,000 each for one year.

Two Peter J. Saker memorial scholarships of $500 each for one year are being offered to seniors who are members of the Octagon clubs sponsored by the Evening Optimist Club.

The Dr. Arthur Goldberg Memorial Award of $200 is available to a graduating senior of Freehold Township High School who excels in the biological sciences and has the endorsement of the science department.

The scholarships will be award at the annual Optimist scholarship dinner. Call Marlene Caruso at (732) 462-7877 for applications or check with the high school guidance department. Completed applications must be received by April 26.
