HIGHTSTOWN A low-speed midnight chase took police on a tour through the borough Saturday.
Police said Lawrence White Jr., 22, of Hightstown led Patrolman Frank Gendron through the borough in the early moments of March 30. According to police, Patrolman Gendron drove past Mr. White’s vehicle and recognized Mr. White behind the wheel. The officer knew Mr. White was driving illegally, as he was known to not have a driver’s license, police said.
When Mr. White noticed the officer, he made a sharp left from South Street onto Pershing Avenue, squealing his tires and driving at a high rate of speed, according to the police report. Police said Mr. White then came to a stop on a lawn on Grape Run Road. When Patrolman Gendron approached the vehicle, the car took off, police said.
Eventually, Mr. White pulled into a driveway on Leshin Lane, where he got out of the car and lay face-down, police said. A search of the vehicle uncovered a clear plastic bag containing vials, a bag of what was suspected to be marijuana and marijuana cigarettes laced with angel dust, according to the report.
Police said Officer Gendron charged Mr. White with eluding the police, possession of marijuana, possession of PCP, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle, driving without a license, failure to yield, reckless driving and failure to yield to an emergency vehicle.
Mr. White was held on $5,000 full bail and transferred to the Mercer County Corrections Center, where he was arraigned on Monday.
