Jayne Jeffreys and Emily Santoro, who compete for Arena Gymnastics, had first-place finishes at the state championships held at Perfect Balance Gymnastics in Mays Landing.

In the 11-year-old division, Jeffreys won the state championship on the balance beam (9.525). She was fourth on the uneven bars (9.4), fifth on the floor exercise (9.5) and seventh in the all-around (36.925). A fifth-grader at the Laura Donovan School, Freehold Township, Jeffreys attended the TOPS camps in Texas run by Bela Karoyli last year. Santoro competed in the 12-year-old division and won her state championship on the uneven bars (9.625). She was seventh on the floor exercise (9.475) and eighth in the all-around (36.85). Santoro is a seventh-grader at St. Rose of Lima School in Freehold. She was selected to represent New Jersey at the regional championships on April 20 in Fredricksburg, Pa.

The Monmouth County Park System is sponsoring a bus trip to Yankee Stadium April 20 to watch the New York Yankees play the Toronto Blue Jays. Bus will leave the Dorbrook Recreation Area, Route 537, Colts Neck, at 10:15 a.m. Cost is $55 person and includes ticket and round-trip transportation. Preregistration is required. Adam Raskin of Morganville will be participating in the 52nd running of the Little 500 bicycle race at Indiana University April 19-20. The Little 500 is one of the great traditions at Indiana University and was memorialized in the motion picture Breaking Away. Raskin is a freshman at the Bloomington campus. He is a graduate of Marlboro High School where he played football and tennis.
