Margaretta ‘Betty’ Hart Layton

   HIGHTSTOWN — Margaretta "Betty" Hart Layton, 85, died Saturday at home.
   Born in Mercerville, she lived in Mercerville and Pennington until recently moving to Meadow Lakes in Hightstown.
   She was a 1934 graduate of Trenton Central High School and had been a bookkeeper with Hopewell Valley Golf Club 22 years.
   Mrs. Layton was a member of Pennington United Methodist Church and its choir. She also was a longtime member of St. Mark United Methodist Church of Hamilton Square and a member of the Ki-Wives of Mercerville.
   Wife of the late Charles L.H. Jones, Leeport J. Kester, Harry G. Rooks and Samuel F. Layton, she is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Carol A. and James O. Tveekrem of Schroeder, Minn., and Betsy F. Ashton and Jacob B. Underhill III of New York City; three grandchildren, June L., Andrew W. and Susan L. Tveekrem; three stepdaughters and their families; a nephew; two grandnieces; and cousins.
   Funeral was Tuesday at Pennington United Methodist Church, with the Rev. James Hofacker, pastor, and the Rev. Robert Loucks co-officiating.
   Burial was private.
