Brookdale Community College’s culinary education center (CEC) recently earned two gold and two bronze medals at the "Skills USA" Vocational Industrial Clubs of America championship. More than 2,500 students, vocational instructors and industry professionals took part in the event. Gold medal winner in the Culinary Arts, Post Secondary Division was Curtis Byrd, Eatontown. Asbury Park resident Neville Ellis was also awarded a gold medal for Commercial Baking, Post Secondary Division. Manalapan resident Peter White received the bronze medal for Culinary Arts, Secondary Division, and Craig Whitman, Manasquan, earned a bronze medal for Food and Beverage Service, Secondary Division.

Deadline for health-care

scholarship extended

The CentraState Healthcare Founda-tion has extended the deadline for applications for its 2002 Health Professions Youth Partnership Scholarship. In total, five $500 scholarships will be awarded to five graduating high school students who have chosen to pursue a career in a health profession. The deadline has been extended to April 29. Winners will be notified in June and scholarships will be awarded in August. Applications are available through high school guidance departments or by contacting the CentraState Healthcare Foundation at (732) 294-7030.
