The Monmouth County Library Commission reorganized at its meeting on Jan. 8 at the library headquarters, Manal-apan. Renee B. Nursing scholarship

The Visiting Nurse Association of Central Jersey is now accepting applications for the Marcia Granucci Memorial Scholarship. To be eligible, applicants must be a New Jersey resident, part-time or full-time enrollment at an educational institution accredited by the National League of Nursing, have a current license and a minimum 3.0 grade point average. Program will focus on

20th-century presidents

"Presidents, Politics and Power: American Presidents Who Shaped the 20th Century," a six-week series, will be presented at Monmouth County Library Headquarters, Manalapan. The programs will begin with light refreshments and include a video prepared by National Video Resources, a brief lecture by a scholar, and audience discussion.

Informational essays about the presidents and lists of suggested reading prepared by the American Library Association are available at the library. There is no registration, no requirements for participation, and no charge.

Programs include Richard Nixon on April 17 with Professor Tom Cioppa facilitating, and Ronald Reagan on April 24 with Cioppa facilitating.

The series will conclude with a visit from Julie Nixon Eisenhower at 2 p.m. May 5. She will present "The View From Inside the White House."

Parent mentors needed

for single mothers

Volunteer parent mentors are needed to offer support to single mothers by sharing positive parenting experiences on a one-to-one basis. The volunteers act as role models for mothers raising children alone.

Mentors are needed throughout Monmouth County to work with mothers who need help with organizational skills, budgeting, finding resources in the area, parenting skills and friendship.

Jewish organization

offers support groups

Jewish Family and Children’s Service, which has facilities in Marlboro and Red Bank, offers several support groups facilitated by professionally trained social workers.

Adult Children of Aging Parents is a group designed to help participants cope with stress and guilt while juggling different roles, learn to say no, and gain a better understanding of aging. The group meets two Mondays per month from 7-8:30 p.m. in the Marlboro office, 25 Kilmer Drive, Building 3.

The Parents of Estranged Adult Children group meets one Wednesday each month from 7:30-9 p.m. in Marlboro. Participants share concerns and expectations and learn communication skills.

The Bereavement Group for Widows and Widowers who have recently lost a spouse meets two evenings per month in either Marlboro or Red Bank, 91 E. Front St., from 7-8:30.

A Holocaust Group offers Holocaust survivors an opportunity to meet other survivors, gain support and share stories. The group meets two afternoons per month from 3-4:30 p.m. in Marlboro.

The Caregivers Group, for spouses caring for an ill husband or wife, offers guidance on available resources and advice on how to deal with a spouse’s needs while taking care of oneself. The group meets during the day in Red Bank or Marlboro (day and time to be determined).

Assault risk reduction

program slated April 23

The Sisterhood of Temple Rodeph Torah, Marlboro, in conjunction with 180 (formerly the Women’s Center of Monmouth County), Hazlet, will present a program on how to reduce the risk of sexual assault. The program is for females age 14 and older and will be held at 8 p.m. April 23 at the temple, Mohawk Drive. Refreshments will be served. For more information call (732) 308-0055.
