MONROE- Fifth person in 52 days dies in car accident

   MONROE — An East Windsor resident died following a collision between a car and pickup truck 9:27 a.m. Sunday at the intersection of Buckelew Avenue and Hoffman Station Road.
   The victim, Robert A. Gilbert, 63, became the fifth person to die in a motor vehicle accident in Monroe Township in a 52-day period.
Mr. Gilbert was a passenger in the car, a 2000 Honda Accord driven by Barbara Gilbert, 59, his wife, also of East Windsor..
   Mr. Gilbert was taken from the scene of the accident to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick by a Medi-vac helicopter.
   Mr. Gilbert was pronounced dead at the hospital.
   Police said the Honda Accord was traveling east on Hoffman Station Road, while a 1996 Ford pickup truck, driven by Edwin J. Lemerich III, 33, of Manalapan, was going north on Buckelew Avenue approaching Hoffman Station Road.
   The car and the pickup truck collided in the intersection of the two roads.
   Ms. Gilbert sustained internal injuries and was transported by ambulance to CentraState Medical Center in Freehold.
   The driver of the pickup truck had minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to CentraState Medical Center where he was treated for his injuries and released.
   The accident continues to be investigated by the Middlesex County Fatal accident Unit and the Monroe Township Police Department.

   The series of township traffic fatalities began March 1 when Mary A. Tvardzik Fetchko died in a two-car accident at Applegarth Road and Centra Drive.
   Murray and Bella Adler both died in a collision with a dump truck March 11 at the intersection of Perrineville and Union Valley roads.
   On March 31, Charles D. Olchvary was struck and killed by a car while walking his dog along the side of Possum Hollow Road. The road has no sidewalks.
