There’s no two ways to slice it. At 9-1, the Lawrence High School golf team is having a heck of a season.
"Based on records alone, we’re doing fairly well," co-coach Sam Caccallori joked after the Cardinals’ most-recent victory.
Lawrence defeated McCorristin, 191-242, at Springfield Golf Course on Tuesday.
Austin Hoggan was the low man, shooting a two-over 36 for the Cardinals. His score was a full 11 strokes better than McCorristin’s best player.
But as has been the case all season, Hoggan was not alone in shooting well.
Kevin Malone shot a 37, while Steve Smith had a 40 and Daniel Shin carded a 41.
"They guys played well (Tuesday)," Caccallori said. "We have a pretty solid team this year. There’s been some good friendly competition among the guys."
But as well as the Cardinals have been playing, a very hectic upcoming week will tell the team exactly where it stands.
After Wednesday’s match against Nottingham, the Cardinals play Notre Dame today (Thursday) and Steinert on Monday. Then the Mercer County Tournament will be held on Tuesday.
One week from Tuesday, the state tournament gets under way.
Caccallori knows the busy week will be the defining moment in the Cardinals’ season.
"It’s definitely going to tell us how the rest of the season is going to go," he said.
