Historical society’s police exhibit to open May 11
The Keyport Historical Society will present the exhibit "Keyport Police Department — Now and Then" May 11 at the Steamboat Dock Museum, Broad Street, Keyport. The exhibit will be in conjunction with National Police Week, May 12-17.
The exhibit’s "then" display will feature early photos of Keyport policemen and uniforms. The "now" display will be on the museum’s lawn and will feature the DARE van, a K-9 dog and the force’s newest patrol car.
The museum’s 30th anniversary and season opening ceremony will be May 19 from noon-4 p.m., with the ceremony at 1 p.m. Featured exhibits will be "Keyport’s History in Steamboats," "Aeromarine Plane Manufacturing," and "Oystering." Light desserts and refreshments will follow the presentation.
A presentation by Daniel Kusrow, "Aeromarine Airways: Unrecognized Airline Pioneer," will be given June 1 at 2 p.m. Kusrow will relate the story of Aeromarine Airway’s operations, especially those in Keyport. The airway was a flying boat service in the eastern United States that traveled to the West Indies from 1920-33.
Museum hours are Sunday from 1-4 p.m. and Monday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Admission is free. For more information, call (732) 739-6390.
Veterans needed for Memorial Day parade
Veterans are needed to participate in the Matawan Memorial Day parade May 26. The number of participants has increased to 125, but 150 is the target for 2002. The parade’s theme is "United We Stand."
An added incentive this year is to honor not only departed and present veterans, but the servicemen and -women serving in Afghanistan.
The parade will commence at St. Clement’s Church, Route 79 at 1:30 p.m., and no uniform is required.

Computer class, theater trip offered in May
The Monmouth Count Park System will offer a computer arts class for residents age 8 and older May 13-June 17 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. The program will be at Henry Hudson Trail Activity Center, Route 36, Leonardo section of Middletown.
Program cost is $112. The program will feature computer graphic programs, and teach basics from startup to printout.
The park system will also offer a trip to Three Little Bakers Dinner Theater, Wilmington, Del,, May 18 from 2:15 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Cost is $70 for transportation, dinner, the show Singin’ in the Rain, and park system leader. The bus will depart from Thompson Park, Newman Springs Road, Lincroft section of Middletown.
