NEW BRUNSWICK — Greater Media, Inc. — which owns Greater Media Newspapers, publishers of the Independent — has announced the purchase of WJRZ (100.1 FM) Oldies 100.
Greater Media and Atlantic Broadcasting Corp. have entered into a local marketing agreement under which Greater Media will operate the Manahawkin station pending approval of the sale by the Federal Communications Commission.
The WJRZ acquisition follows by less than a year Greater Media’s acquisition of WMTR (1250 AM), WDHA (105.5 FM), WRAT (95.9 FM) and WWTR (1170 AM) from New Jersey Broadcasting. In New Jersey, Greater Media also owns WCTC (1450 AM) and WMGQ (98.3 FM).
Dan Finn, Greater Media’s regional vice president for New Jersey, said, "WJRZ is a perfect fit for Greater Media New Jersey. We now have seven strategically placed radio stations in the Garden State that complement each other. Oldies 100 is a terrific station with incredible brand loyalty. Our advertisers now have greater access to the audience in the desirable Monmouth-Ocean market."
Greater Media is a privately owned company that owns 18 radio stations in Boston, Detroit, Philadelphia and New Jersey, a tower company, nine weekly newspapers, and a commercial printing facility in East Brunswick.
