The Golden Tones, a choral group made up of 40 senior residents of Greenbriar at Winding Ways in Jackson, is currently rehearsing selections from Guys and Dolls. Any resident or group who is interested in having them perform at a function should call Mark Simon, director, at (723) 833-9062.

Writer’s group to meet

at Jackson library

The newly formed writer’s group in Jackson holds meetings the third Wednes-day of each month from 7-8:30 p.m. at the Jackson branch of the Ocean County Library, 2 Jackson Drive. The group discusses writing, publishing and shares ideas. Participants are asked to bring a notebook to meetings. New members are always welcome and are asked to bring samples of their writing to the first meeting they attend. Members should be 16 years of age and up. Senior center to

celebrate anniversary

The Jackson Township Senior Citizens Community Center, 45 Don Connor Blvd., is hosting an anniversary dinner-dance on June 7 at noon. The center will be celebrating its 15th anniversary. Summer expeditions offered to Howell teens

Registration for the Howell recreation department’s Summer Teen Expeditions program will be held May 6-10 at the recreation building Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Monday through Thursday, 6:30-9 p.m. Registra-tion fee is $25 per child. A $10 late fee will be added after May 17. Checks should be made payable to Howell Township. This program runs from July 8 through Aug. 9 and is open to Howell residents only (proof of residency required at registration). Applicants must be entering seventh through 10th grade. Planned trips will include visits to Blackbeard’s Cave, Waterworks in Seaside, Six Flags’ Hurri-cane Harbor, a BlueClaws baseball game, and Mohawk Canoe and Livery, to name a few. Mascots called out

for county festival

Plans are under way for the eighth annual "Funtasia" festival for children, a county-wide event sponsored by the Ocean County Department of Parks and Recreation. The festival will be held July 19 at Ocean County Park, Route 88, Lake-wood. This year, the Parks and Recreation Department is extending a special invitation to local mascots to participate in the festival. A number of special events will be held including mascot races and games.

Last year approximately 8,000 people attended the event.
