Small amounts of snowfall didn’t stop county residents from participating in the 2002 Snowman Photo Contest sponsored by the Ocean County Department of Parks and Recreation.

The winners are Kenny Jordan, 9, Forked River, in the "cutest snowman" category for his miniature, carrot-nosed creation; Jessie and Kayla Heinly, Brick, in the "largest snowman" category, for their larger-than-life snowman that peaked from their home’s roof; the Ryan family, Toms River, for their scarved trio in the "most traditional" category; the Jefferson family, Jackson, in the "most original" category, for their snow swan sculpture; and Mike and Heather Alexander, Toms River, in the "most patriotic" category, for their red, white and blue snowman.

Philosophy professor

wins humanities grant

Dr. Edward P. Witman, professor of philosophy at Georgian Court College, Lakewood, has been awarded a $2,800 grant by the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) to participate in a summer institute at The Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine, Hershey, Pa., for the month of July.

The NEH Institute, "Medicine, Litera-ture and Culture," will provide humanities faculty, responsible for teaching pre-med students, with the opportunity to participate in important aspects of medical education and clinical practice at an academic medical center.

Witman teaches a variety of philosophy courses in practical and professional ethics, including the health care component in Georgian Court College’s MBA program, and is particularly interested in biomedical issues. He serves as chairman of the Department of Philosophy, Relig-ious Studies and Graduate Theology, History and Geography at Georgian Court, and is a consulting ethicist at Community Medical Center, Toms River.

The 26th annual Senior Citizens Art Exhibit can currently be viewed in the Ocean County College Fine Arts Gallery, Toms River, through June 2. Professional and nonprofessional artists 60 years of age or older who are residents of Ocean County are displaying their artwork in 11 categories including oil, acrylic, watercolor, print, pastel, drawing, mixed media, photography, computer graphics, sculpture and craft. Admission is free and open to the public. The OCC Fine Arts Center Gallery is open to the public Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday until 5 p.m., and when performances and events take place in the Fine Arts Center Theatre. Auditions planned for adult cabaret show

Proteus Productions Inc. of Howell is looking for local residents with hidden or not-so-hidden talents who would like to perform on stage. Any resident 18 years old or older who can sing, dance, or has a stand-up routine should contact Proteus Productions to schedule an audition for its upcoming adult cabaret show.
