Tree guide debuts on Pennington Day

Fifty-three species that line the borough’s streets are described and located by the guide, which will make its debut on May 18 at Pennington Day. Look for the Shade Tree Commission booth on Main Street.

Take a tour, a self-guided tour, of Pennington’s trees with the help of a new, illustrated "Tree Guide to Pennington" from the Pennington Borough Shade Tree Commission.

The Tree Guide was created by Jim Merritt, commission member, and printed through the support of a New Jersey Forest Service and Community Forestry Council 2002 Community Stewardship Incentive Program Grant. Its purpose: to inform Pennington residents and visitors about this community resource. The guide also will be available at Pennington Borough Hall.
The commission says too much mulch can kill trees. It’s a growing problem that the Shade Tree Commission would like residents to understand. Information on this and other timely topics from Rutgers Cooperative Extension will be available at the Shade Tree Commission Pennington Day booth.
Also, ask about the commission’s Commemorative Tree Planting Program.
The Shade Tree Commission is charged with oversight and improvement of Pennington’s urban forest, and public education is part of fulfilling that mission.
