KEYPORT — According to the police, a 53-year-old borough man was found lying dead on the sidewalk early Saturday.

The body of Robert Cecere, Osborne Street, was discovered at 5:15 a.m. Saturday by sanitation workers at Third and Waverly streets, across the street from Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 4247.

"He had an injury to his head, which was the cause of his death," explained Lt. Thomas Mitchell of the Keyport police department. "The incident is still being investigated, and we are also awaiting toxicology results from the medical examiner."

Mitchell said that Cecere was found lying on the sidewalk by garbage collectors working in the area. More information will be available later in the week.

The Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, which is also looking into the case, did not return phone calls by press deadline.
