‘Sandy Hook Lighthouse Day’ slated for June 8

Gateway National Recreation Area, Sandy Hook, will hold "Sandy Hook Lighthouse Day" June 8 from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. The free event will include talks and tours of the house and keepers quarters, and demonstrations by Revolutionary War soldiers.

The N.J. Audubon Society will hold an evening bird walk June 11 at 6 p.m. "Sandy Hook’s Archeological Story" will be presented June 12 at 6 p.m. and feature a slide talk.

A program on the World War II social scene will be presented June 13 at 6 p.m. A "History Walk" of Horseshoe Cove is slated for June 16 at 6 p.m. The American Littoral Society will hold a "Summer Solstice Walk" June 21 at 8 p.m. A walk of Plum Island will be June 22 at 5 p.m.

"Going Bunkers" will be given June 23 at 6 p.m. at the Sandy Hook Education Center. "Cold War Defenders" will be presented June 27 at 6 p.m. at the Fort Hancock Post theater. A walk along a Sandy Hook salt marsh will be June 28 at 6 p.m. A tour of the guns of Fort Hancock will be June 29 at 6 p.m., and attendees are asked to bring a flashlight to explore the mortar battery, battery potter and other batteries.

The Sandy Hook beach concert series will begin June 19 with First Class Act (a Beach Boys-type group). The Caribbean music of Malibu will be performed June 26, and the R&B Black Widow Band will perform July 3. The free concerts are sponsored by the Sandy Hook Foundation and are on the beach at area E.

Subscriptions now on sale for Holmdel theater

Season subscriptions are now available for the Holmdel Theatre Company’s 14th season. Performances will be held at the Duncan Smith Theater, Holmdel High School, Crawfords Corner Road.

Subscriptions guarantee reserved seating, a $3 discount on each adult ticket, and a $2 discount on senior and student (18 and younger) tickets. Individual tickets will be available June 1 and cost $18 for adults and $12 for seniors and students.

The company will perform A Midsummer Night’s Dream June 28-July 14, and Christopher Durang’s comedy Laughing Wild Aug. 9-25. Holmdel resident Jim Donovan will direct Midsummer. Holmdel High School graduates and professional actors Sal Giordano and Krista Smith will play the leads in Laughing.

‘The Coast Guard in the Vietnam Era’ June 15

The N.J. Vietnam Veterans Memorial Foundation, Holmdel, will present "The Coast Guard in the Vietnam Era" June 15 at 1 p.m. at the Vietnam Era Educational Center, Holmdel. A $5-per person donation is suggested.

The program will feature the documentary Ngung Lai/Operation Market Time, and will be followed by a discussion led by New Jersey Vietnam veterans who served in the U.S. Coast Guard.
