Clifton Avenue math
team earns honors

Sixteen students from grades five and six from the Clifton Avenue Grade School in Lakewood participated in the annual New Jersey Math League Contest March 19. This contest is made available to all elementary students in pubic and private schools throughout New Jersey. Among all of the schools in Ocean County which participated in the contest, the Clifton Avenue math team placed second.

The students prepared for this contest for approximately 10 weeks with the help of two teachers at their school: Margaret Ell, the elementary math specialist and the computer teacher, and Nora Eller, teacher of the gifted and talented class.

The five students achieving the highest scores were selected to become members of the school’s math team. Their scores were submitted to the Math League for consideration in the statewide competition. Matt Accisano, a sixth-grade student from Clifton Avenue, was ranked as one of the top four students in the county.
