Lakewood playground programs begin July 1

Playground programs for Lakewood children ages 6-15 will begin July 1. Children may register at the playground of their choice between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. Each site will be staffed with experienced adult supervisors who have designed a variety of activities for all participants including free lunches, arts and crafts, bus trips, contests, tournaments and special events. On inclement weather days, indoor facilities will be available at the Clifton Avenue Grade School, Hearthstone, Larry D’Zio Park, No. 5 School, Pine Park, Reverend Clayton Park, Spruce Street School and Sunset Road. Plumsted youth honored

in writing contest

New Jersey Network Public Television recognized the regional winners of Reading Rainbow’s eighth annual Young Writers and Illustrators Contest at a special ceremony at the Barnes & Noble in the Princeton MarketFair on May 11. Dina Matos McGreevey, wife of Gov. James McGreevey, presented the awards at the event. More than 1,700 children from throughout New Jersey and the surrounding states, grades K-3, submitted entries for the contest that encouraged students to write and illustrate their own stories. Among the winners was kindergartner Elena Brown of the Cream Ridge section of Plumsted who won for her true story "Brandy, The Christmas Dog."

Vo-tech class hosts Hair Cut-A-Thon in Brick

The 10th annual Hair Cut-A-Thon to benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation will be held from 2-6 p.m. June 7 at the Ocean County Vocational Technical School’s Brick Center, 350 Chambers Bridge Road. Baltimore Inner Harbor

trip slated for June 8

Plumsted Township Community Education is sponsoring a trip to Balti-more’s Inner Harbor on June 8. Residents may enjoy the gift shops, aquarium and restaurants or take a short cruise. Exercise classes

slated in Plumsted

Plumsted Township Community Education will be holding two exercise classes in June and July. Instructor Susan Zielinski will lead students in a "Total Body" nonaerobic workout for 60 minutes twice a week June 5 through July 17, 6-7 p.m. The fee is $54.

A step aerobic class will be held June 12 through July 17, 7:15-8:15 p.m. The fee for this course is $55.
