Woman, unborn child killed in crash

LAKEWOOD — A Lakewood woman and her unborn child died Sunday morning after being involved in a three-car crash.

According to Lakewood Police Officer Ray Przewoznik, Sara E. Holtz, 29, of Sharon Court, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

The accident took place at about 7:30 a.m., police said. Holtz was driving west on Locust Street at the intersection of Route 9 when she apparently disregarded a stop sign, Przewoznik said. Her vehicle was struck on the driver’s side door by a pickup truck being driven north on the highway by Andre Gaucher, 61, of Drum-mondville, Quebec, Canada.

According to police, the force of the collision caused the pickup truck to flip over. Holtz’s car was forced sideways and was then rear-ended by a car being driven by Ivan Kardos, 82, of Lakewood.

Przewoznik said the damage to all three vehicles was substantial, but Gaucher and Kardos were not seriously injured. Both were taken to Kimball Medical Center, Lakewood, and treated for minor injuries.
