HIGHTSTOWN — Bob Patten, the former Republican Borough Councilman, will be permitted to run for mayor in the November election on the Republican ticket, according to Borough Deputy Clerk Leona Baylor.
Mr. Patten received 11 Republican write-in votes under several versions and misspellings of his name in the June 4 primary election. One write-in vote for Mr. Patten was tallied in the Democratic column.
He also received two votes in which a party was not listed. In order to qualify as the borough’s Republican candidate, 12 write-in votes were required. Mercer County elections supervisor Brian Brasford said his office would need to open the ballot machines to check those two write-in votes in the borough’s voting District 1.
Ms. Baylor said Monday both of those votes have been awarded to Mr. Patten under the Republican column, bringing his total to 13 — one above the required 12.
