Voters thanked for support of executive committee

I would like to take the opportunity to personally thank those registered Democratic voters throughout Hazlet Township who came out and voted in support of both myself and our slate for seats on the party’s executive committee. On June 4, through your votes, you overwhelmingly transformed the theme of my campaign, "Lavan for Hazlet 2002," into a reality. Instead of perpetuating the politics of divisiveness and bitterness, it is imperative for our party to now embrace the overwhelming, progressive mandate we have received.

Furthermore, I would like to commend the tireless and devoted efforts of my campaign committee and the 34 members of the newly elected Democratic Executive Committee. A warm welcome and congratulations goes out to all those new and returning members of that board.

It was the members of the campaign committee who plotted our coordinated efforts and developed my proactive platform. Our 34-member slate for executive committee seats was instrumental in mobilizing voter turnout within their respective districts and these individuals are truly the infrastructure of our party.

The guiding beacon for the Democratic Party must now be the open seat that will emerge on the Township Committee this November and our efforts to capture it, thereby increasing our majority. My "road map" in this pursuit will continue to be the items presented in my campaign platform — a stabilized municipal tax rate, settlement as to the location of a new town hall, and a balance between open space and development.

The work is far from done. In fact, it is only beginning. I urge all Democrat voters to continue in their support of our efforts leading up to the fall general election campaign season.

Kevin M. Lavan
