‘Quality of life’ should cover dangerous intersections

Middletown Committeeman Rick Brodsky likes to talk about quality of life issues. He proudly speaks of the "high quality of life" in Middletown. There is one quality of life issue which the township should address. The intersections on Route 36, which include Main Street, Port Monmouth; Main Street, Belford; and Wilson Avenue, are becoming increasingly dangerous. The intersections of Cherry Tree Farm Road and Leonardville Road, as well as Cherry Tree Road and Harmony Road are equally dangerous.

A petition with thousands of signature was presented to the Township Committee. To date, no action has been taken. Forget about the proposed town center. Traffic is already a problem and a headache. Another bad intersection is Main Street, Port Monmouth, and Harmony Road, where a four-way blinking stoplight has controlled traffic for years. It has become outdated. Some of these intersections should have alternate stoplights.

This is not a state problem. It is not a county problem. It is a municipal problem. When a petition is submitted, this means the people have spoken. Why is there no answer?
