Manville businesses H & R Variety and Krauszer’s were burglarized again for the second time in as many weeks with more than $500 worth of lottery tickets reported stolen this time from the two stores.
"It’s just a nightmare," said Manville police Detective Sgt. Mark Sniscak after the two stores were burglarized in the early morning hours of June 27.
At 12:15 a.m., police were notified of an alarm at the Krauszer’s convenience store at 807 S. Main St. The officers discovered that the front door window was smashed and found no suspects in the area. A store manager who arrived on the scene determined the only items missing were $244 worth of lottery tickets.
Then, at 12:35 a.m., a police officer noticed the glass door to the H & R Variety store in the Rustic Mall was also smashed. After an investigation, officers found that $270 of scratch-off lottery tickets were stolen from the store, which is not equipped with a burglar alarm.
Store manager Harry Raya said a monitoring system is being installed in the store.
The June 27 break-in is the third time in two months that the H & R variety store has been burglarized, with the suspects smashing the front door window on each occasion. On May 16, thieves made off with an undisclosed amount of money; on June 20, $80 in cash was stolen from the store.
The break-in at Krauszer’s June 27 is also the second time that store has been targeted in the last two weeks. On the night of June 21, suspects broke the front door window at the store but nothing was reported missing.
