Cosumano miffed at Post 401

The South Brunswick Post 401 baseball team took an 8-5-1 record into Tuesday’s game with Perth Amboy, having won four of its last six games.
But coach Tony Cosumano was not happy.
"Right now it looks like the kids kind of quit," Cosumano said. "Some kids are not coming to play. They’re coming but they’re not coming to give 100 percent. Plus we have injuries, and other guys just aren’t showing up. They have reasons, but they’re not reasons good enough for me."
South Brunswick won by forfeit over Perth Amboy last Wednesday, lost a 1-0 decision to Edison Thursday in a game called by darkness after five innings, beat Newtown, Pa., 13-11, Friday, beat Carteret, 9-6, Saturday, beat Franklin, 9-4, Sunday and lost to Iselin, 6-1, Monday.
"Against Edison, there was lightning before the game started and we didn’t start until almost 6:30," Cosumano said. "The forfeit time is supposed to be 6:15, so I knew we’d be in trouble trying to play the whole game. I wasn’t real happy because it’s not fair to the team losing 1-0, whether it’s us or them.
"The Newtown game was kind of an exhibition game for us and them. We got behind 5-0 but came back. We’re supposed to beat Carteret and we’re supposed to beat Franklin. Whenever we play a good team, we play bad. And we played bad against Iselin."
Four errors led to four Iselin runs, and South Brunswick lost a run on a baserunning error. Chris Felix was the hard luck loser, as he has been much of the season.
"Felix has been pitching good, but we haven’t been playing good for him," Cosumano said.
The coach also cited Nick and Joe Clemente, Freddy Brown and Kyle Cleffi for their consistent play during the season. But Cleffi’s arm was bothering him on Monday, as was Dane Marini’s, adding to South Brunswick’s injury woes.
After Wednesday’s game with Perth Amboy, the Vikings will host a five-team tournament starting today (Thursday).
