Many Valley area residents gathered Saturday at the Union Firehouse in Titusville for the Jane Martin Children’s Benefit Picnic.
The event was organized by Titusville residents Lisa and Dane Wood for the purpose of helping the young children of their late neighbor, Jane Martin, who died June 21 at the age of 35.
The late Ms. Martin was Hopewell Township Police Chief Mike Chipowsky’s secretary. She also worked as a tax assessor and was a member of the Union Fire Company and Rescue Squad of Titusville.
According to Ms. Wood, "The event brought a lot of family, co-workers and friends. We had a band, which consisted of John Marryott and some of his friends. They played all day and a lot of the people stayed the whole time to listen to them and support the event.
"The weather was beautiful," Ms. Wood said. Children kept themselves busy with volleyball and playing in the sand. Adults played quoits.
Ms. Wood added: "The food was delicious. Tim Fenton brought two pigs, hot dogs and hamburgers and some of the Police Department and Public Works men helped cook everything. We also had neighbors make desserts and families from the Pennington Presbyterian Church and nursery schools brought salads.
"The Hopewell Township Police Department, Public Works, PBA, Uniformed Firefighters Association and Union Fire and Rescue donated everything else we needed, including the rental hall."
