Relay for Life raised $52,000

LEDGER FORUM

On behalf of this year’s American Cancer Society Relay For Life in Mercer County, I would like to thank the residents of Mercer County for their support and generosity.
More than 500 people participated in this year’s Relay for Life at Mercer County Community College May 31-June 1. We raised more than $52,000 for the American Cancer Society in Mercer County. These funds will benefit American Cancer Society programs for research, education, advocacy and patient services.
I applaud the more than 200 survivors who kicked off the relay by participating in the survivors dinner and opening survivor recognition lap. They are the reason we continue to fight for a cure. They remind all of us how important early detection can be.
A special thanks goes to the many volunteers who worked to make this event the success it was this year. The Relay For Life committee did an outstanding job of pulling the community together. Of particular note, the D.O.T. Team, under the direction of Devon Brown, sent 85 people in seven teams raising more than $15,000.
We appreciate the generosity of this year’s major sponsors — Pennington Quality Market, PSE&G, Panera Bread, Yardville National Bank and Mercer County Community College — for their contributions and participation in this year’s Relay for Life. A special note of thanks to Pennington Quality Market, which raised and contributed over $12,000 to this year’s event.
As the 2002 chairwoman, I thank you for supporting the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life in Mercer County. We look forward to an even bigger and better Relay For Life 2003 this coming spring.
