Oxley receives SCAN humanitarian award

The Senior Citizens Activities Network (SCAN), Eatontown, recently presented its Sister Mary Simon-Robb Humanitarian Award to Monmouth County Sheriff Joseph W. Oxley.

Oxley was honored for his outstanding dedication to the mission of SCAN, the nonprofit community, and to improving the quality of life of Monmouth County seniors.

The award recognizes government, business, and individuals for outstanding contributions and extraordinary commitment to the mission of SCAN learning center and the community.

It was established in honor of Sister Mary Simon-Robb, past executive director of the Monmouth County Office of Aging, who faithfully dedicates her life to helping the poor and those in need.

Library offers new video

The Long Branch Public Library, 328 Broadway, is now offering the new videotape "Stuttering and the Preschool Child: Help for Families."

The tape is produced by the nonprofit Stuttering Foundation of America. It is designed to help parents detect stuttering in children, and offers actions to take to help the child as well as strategies to help reduce stuttering.

Life makeover July 25

Rumson resident Donna Steinhorn will conduct a free life makeover group July 25 at 7 p.m. at Barnes and Noble, Route 36, West Long Branch.
